We will have our annual John Craig McKenzie Pass ski on Saturday, March 18, 2017. The next day, Sunday, March 19, will be the State ONC Meeting. The McKenzie Pass highway will be groomed to Dee Wight Observatory. The views are spectacular and we will have an aid station at the pass.
The John Craig McKenzie Pass Ski Tour is a long-time Oregon Nordic Club tradition that commemorates John Craig, who skied the mail for years between Willamette Valley to Eastern Oregon until he perished in a blizzard in 1877 on McKenzie Pass. Read more about the John Craig story.
The John Craig Memorial Ski Tour begins from the McKenzie Pass east side snow gate on Hwy 242 at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Meet at the Ponderosa Inn at 8:30 a.m. if you want to car pool with others to the start.
Participants can ski individually or in groups to Windy Point, or even go beyond as far as the Dee Wight Observatory. ALL participants must turn around no later than 2:00 PM to ensure we all get back safely. There will be a set track to the observatory and there will be an aid station, but please have plenty of water and snacks in your pack as the tour can be strenuous. Donation jars will be available to help defray expenses.
There will also be an ONC State Board meeting beginning at 9:00 AM on Sunday, March 20th in the Ponderosa Room. Everyone is invited to attend.
